I have wanted to work in the computer graphics industry since I was 15, over the past 7 years I have been setting myself goals and working hard to achieve my ambition. I have always been very determined in finding out what will be wanted from me, and in teaching myself what I see is needed. I believe I offer versatility with the combined maths and design background and also initiative having relied on independent learning throughout my education. From learning the BASIC programming language making simple games in my lunch break at secondary school, to getting to grips with Lightwave 3D in the evenings throughout my A-Levels, (and more recently learning about Neural Networks ,) I believe I can quickly get up to speed with new tasks.
Before leaving secondary school, I set my sights upon applying for Bournemouth University’s Computer Visualisation and Animation course, which was recommended as the best place in the UK to study computer animation. However, after confirming my place, I deferred a year and took an art foundation course, because of the benefits people had told me they had gained from it. I myself found that it increased my awareness of design, and also developed more transferable skills such as problem solving.
I have good communication skills which have developed and benefited from working in collaborative projects where the group had diverse opinions and from giving regular project presentations at Bournemouth. But also a valuable experience of dealing with clients was gained while creating T-Shirt designs for Alex Soloman over last summer. Mr. Soloman had a very clear vision of what he wanted, and creating designs to meet his specification required clear communication, with regular feedback and numerous adjustments as we explored his ideas.
I have a good understanding of Maya, and have used the Mel scripting language extensively, this has been invaluable, especially when coping with unforeseen problems before a deadline when time is critical.
All my projects this year have been programmed in C++ using Microsoft Visual studio and I am also very confident in Photoshop.
Outside of university I have also made money from fixing peoples computers, which has kept me quite busy, and when not looking at screens, I find it a relaxing break to go running, or getting dragged around fields by my power kite.
What I offer is a strong foundation of knowledge of the technical and the creative design processes, which all come from a great passion for computer games, and a desire to spend my working life doing what fascinates me.
My ultimate goal is working on games at a level where I can influence a gamers experience.
